TERRE HAUTE —
A Terre Haute woman faces a charge of arson related to a Jan. 10 apartment building fire in the 600 block of South Center Street.
Kenna D. Cooper, 42, was arrested Tuesday by Terre Haute Police after investigators questioned her about the fire that displaced five occupants of the building.
Detective Troy Davis said Cooper told police that she became upset after finding pornographic images on her husband’s cell phone. Davis stated in Vigo Superior Court 3 on Wednesday that Cooper told police she went into a vacant apartment across the hall from her apartment and lit a candle that had been placed near a curtain, resulting in the fire to the structure.
There were no witnesses to the incident, Davis said, and no one came forward until police interviewed Cooper again on Tuesday.
Davis said Cooper has two prior arrests related to arson.
Judge David Bolk set bail at $75,000 cash only, and appointed a public defender to handle her defense.
Formal charges in the case are to be filed Monday.
