19-year-old jailed after bank robbery in Paris

PARIS, ILL — A 19-year-old Paris man was in Edgar County jail Tuesday after allegedly robbing a bank Monday afternoon.

Tyler Arrasmith was being held Tuesday on $50,000 bail with 10 percent allowed, according to an official with the Edgar County Sheriff’s Department.

About 1 p.m. on Monday, Paris police received an automatic holdup alarm from the eastside drive-up window of the Citizens National Bank in Paris, according to a police media release issued Tuesday. Witnesses gave officers a description of a lone male who fled the scene on foot.

Officers from the Paris Police Department and the Edgar County Sheriff’s Department began a search of the area. “Alert citizens provided officers with information that led” to the arrest of Arrasmith in his home, the news release stated.

Arrasmith, who was unarmed during the robbery, did not resist officers when taken into custody, said Detective Sgt. Jeff Goodwin of the Paris Police Department.

Arrasmith has been charged with financial institution robbery, a class-1 felony that can carry a sentence of up to 14 years in prison, Goodwin said.

Citizens National Bank has locations in Paris, Oakland and Charleston in Illinois. It also recently opened a branch on Davis Avenue in Terre Haute.
