Valley man faces marijuana growing charges

A Coalmont man wanted on outstanding Greene County warrants also faces an investigation of his alleged participation in a marijuana growing operation discovered Sunday, police say.

Jesse S. West, 29, was lodged in the Greene County Jail in Bloomfield after his arrest Thursday. He is also wanted in Martin County, and could face marijuana-related charges in Clay County.

Clay County sheriff’s deputies were looking for West at his father’s home in Coalmont when they found about 32 marijuana plants growing near the front door of the home of Scott F. West, 44, and Janet Mae Wright, 51.

Police seized a total of 138 plants, several firearms, drug paraphernalia, and about $41,000 in cash.

Scott West was arrested for class-C felony possession of a destructive device, class-C felony dealing in marijuana, and class-D felony maintaining a common nuisance.

Wright was arrested for class-D felony possession of marijuana and class-D felony maintaining a common nuisance.

Jesse West was not at the residence at the time, but was later located by police. Jesse West was booked into the Greene County Jail without bail.
