Woodrow Wilson’s Isaiah Pittman V becoming a performance sensation

TERRE HAUTE — Isaiah Pittman V is only 11, but the Woodrow Wilson Middle School student already is a singing and tap-dancing sensation.

While he lives in Terre Haute, he performs regularly in the Chicago area and is promoting a new single CD, “Can you Dance.”

“We’re releasing the single to promote him as an artist and in preparation for the album that will be released later this summer,” said Dr. Isaiah Pittman IV, father of the talented pop R&B; singer and dancer. The album is called “In the Spotlight.”

The CD was produced by a small private label, IPx Records LLC. It has four versions of the original song, as well as a re-recording of Michael Jackson’s “Got To Be There.”

To promote his new single, Isaiah is having a promotional pool party for kids June 26 in Terre Haute at the Landing at Fort Harrison. The event is free and will include drinks, pizza, swimming, and performances by Isaiah, who also goes by “Ip5.”

“We’re looking to have a party for the community,” Pittman said. The event is from noon to 4 p.m., and parents need to accompany their children.

MIX-FM will be on hand from noon to 2 p.m., said Pittman, a Terre Haute endocrinologist.

The CD will be widely promoted in the Chicago area at the end of the month.

Isaiah has been performing and taking formal dance lessons since age 4. He does both hip-hop and tap.

He already has met Patti LaBelle and has studied dance with Debbie Allen in Los Angeles. Allen is best-known for her role in the 1982 hit TV series “Fame.”

Isaiah also has met Ted Levy, who did choreography for “A Chorus Line,” and anticipates working on a project with the famed choreographer.

Isaiah’s musical inspirations include Michael Jackson, Jackie Wilson, Frankie Lymon, Sammy Davis Jr., the Nicholas Brothers and Whitney Houston.

“I like being on stage and in front of a big crowd of people,” Isaiah said.

His mom, Dr. Lynn Pittman, who practices internal medicine, said he danced before he could walk and even won a dance contest with his dad when Isaiah was just 10 months old.

Isaiah said he likes to perform, but he also aspires to be a chemist. When he’s not going to school or performing, he enjoys going to the Boys and Girls Club in the summer and he also studies martial arts and is working on his black belt.

He has three younger siblings — a sister and two brothers.

Isaiah’s CD single can be purchased at several Terre Haute locations including Umi Grill, Trinity Hair Salon, Jeff’s Family Hair Care and Purse Lady at Honey Creek Mall. The Pittmans are also selling it at HPW Center, where they practice medicine. For other locations, call (812) 478-1262.

The CD is being sold at locations in other cities, and Pittman said more than 700 have been distributed/sold in the past 21/2 weeks.

Video clips of Isaiah also can be found on YouTube. “His popularity has picked up quite a bit” in the past month, his father said.

Stay tuned.
