Body of missing woman found

Linton resident reported missing May 26

Linton — The body of a missing 93-year-old woman was found Tuesday, a week after she was reported missing.

Esther Risher, 93, of Linton, was reported missing by family members May 26 after she failed to arrive at a club meeting that afternoon.

Risher reportedly suffered some signs of dementia.

According to a report issued by the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, Risher’s body was found about 11/2 miles northeast of Wheatland, near the West Fork of the White River at 8:55 a.m. Tuesday.

Risher was found about 100 feet from her vehicle, which was along a private river lane to a group of cabins. It appeared that she had driven down the lane until the vehicle became stuck in mud, the report stated.

Due to local flooding of the White River, the vehicle was not noticed until the water receded and a resident went back into the area. Officials believe Risher had been dead four to five days. Results of an autopsy are pending, but investigators noted no signs of foul play.
