TERRE HAUTE — A Terre Haute city councilman accused of impersonating a police officer has been given a trial date of Aug. 24.
Ramon “Turk” Roman, 74, is charged in Vigo County Superior Court Division 6 with impersonation of a public servant, a class-D felony.
Roman allegedly said he was a police officer when he threatened a man with arrest and induced him to show his driver’s license in a fast-food restaurant Dec. 18.
Roman approached the man after being angered when their cars nearly collided on Wabash Avenue, police have said.
Special Judge Matthew L. Headley of Putnam County is hearing the case. Judge Michael Lewis had stepped down from the case, saying he and other Vigo County judges could not serve because of their familiarity with the defendant.
Roman served eight years on the County Council and was elected to the City Council in 2007.
If the case reaches trial, the trial would run in Division 6 court.
