A Bloomfield woman suffered a severe head injury early Monday after her car left Indiana 45 in Greene County and rolled several times.
Because of damage to the car, Owensburg and Center Township Fire Departments had to cut Sarah Leeds, 27, free from the vehicle after the accident, police said.
Leeds was flown to a hospital in Indianapolis by Air Evac Ambulance. In addition to the head injury, she suffered broken bones and internal injuries. An update on her condition was not available later Monday.
Leeds was traveling northbound about 15 miles southeast of Bloomfield when her vehicle went left of center for an unknown reason, according to a report by Lt. Bryan Woodall of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department.
Woodall theorized that Leeds overcorrected and the car traveled off the east side of the road, up an embankment and became airborne just as it struck a tree. The impact caused the roof, dash and driver’s side door to collapse on her, he said. She had been wearing her seat belt.
Leeds works in Bloomington and was en route there at the time of the accident about 7 a.m., Woodall said.
