Valley man trapped for at least 3 hours under ATV

ROCKVILLE — Parke County officials were investigating an ATV accident that left one man trapped and unconscious for at least three hours before he was rescued.

Around 5:40 a.m. Thursday, the Parke County Sheriff’s Department received a call about an ATV accident on County Road 300 East near the Putnam County line, according to a sheriff’s department news release.

Philip E. Harlan, 41, of Rockville was trapped under a Suzuki 500 four wheeler. First responders extricated him and transported him to the Putnam County Hospital.

Harlan had injuries from the crash and was hypothermic. Deputies determined he was trapped for at least three hours.

He was wearing a helmet. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

A spokeswoman at Putnam County Hospital said Harlan was not there Friday afternoon. His condition was unavailable.
