Red Cross helps family after fire

Bad wiring is blamed for a fire Thursday afternoon on Schaal Avenue.

According to a media release issued by the Terre Haute Fire Department, a resident smelled smoke in a home at 3006 Schaal Ave. about 1:30 p.m. before going outside and witnessing smoke coming out of the attic area and calling 911.

Firefighters responded and found light smoke in the attic, where a fire was extinguished in a few seconds.

According to the report, investigators determined the fire to be caused by bad wiring above the ceiling fan. Damage was contained to the living-room ceiling and some of the room’s contents.

The American Red Cross was called to help relocate tenants.
