Terre Haute Ministries gets $50K grant

On Wednesday, Terre Haute Ministries Inc. received a $50,000 grant from the Presbytery of Ohio Valley.

Rev. Lorna Kuyk, Executive Presbyter of the Presbytery of Ohio Valley, was on hand to present the check to Rev. Vince McFarland, president of Terre Haute Ministries.

The grant will be a boost to the ongoing efforts of the newly formed Wabash Valley Long-Term Disaster Recovery Coalition.

The funds will be utilized by Terre Haute Ministries to hire an executive director, who will be loaned to the coalition to coordinate construction volunteers, activities, and materials donations. The Terre Haute Ministries executive director will work alongside the Wabash Valley Long-Term Disaster Recovery Coalition disaster recovery coordinator and case management supervisor to fulfill the mission of the organization.

The mission of the Wabash Valley Long-Term Disaster Recovery Coalition is to strengthen area-wide disaster coordination in the affected area including Clay, Parke, Sullivan, Vermillion and Vigo counties by sharing information, simplifying resident access to services, and jointly resolving cases with disaster-caused recovery needs.

The organization seeks to respond to needs not met by relief systems such as FEMA, Red Cross, Small Business Administration and other disaster recovery programs.
