City works to open ‘bark park’

Dogs, owners could have special place by December

By Arthur E. Foulkes

TERRE HAUTE — The city of Terre Haute continues to work toward opening its first “bark park,” perhaps as early as the end of this year, a city official said Monday.

Negotiations are still under way, but city officials are talking with Vectren Energy Delivery about turning an abandoned gas plant on the north side of Fairbanks Park into a park where dog owners can bring their pets.

Plans include removing asbestos from the abandoned complex, demolishing the buildings, conducting environmental tests and bringing in clean fill material, according to a letter from a Vectren official to Pat Martin, chief planner for the city of Terre Haute’s Department of Engineering.
