Bloomfield severely damaged by storm

Shelter set up in Bloomfield church

GREENE COUNTY — Bloomfield in Greene County received the most severe damage from Tuesday's storm, according to a release today from the Greene County Sheriff's Department.

In Bloomfield, residential damages were most severe. Roofs have been blown/torn off and some houses and or garages have collapsed, the release states. Several trees are down on houses, cars and roadways, as well as power lines down throughout the area.

Officers have reported large amounts of debris found in trees. Nothing has been confirmed reference anything touching down but damages have resembled that of a tornado, the release states.

Throughout the county, there have been reports of high water on the roadways. People are urged not to travel unless it is absolutely necessary.

The water is rising rapidly on many of the county roads. Indiana 54 near the Bloomfield Dairy Queen has been detoured due to power lines down across the roadway.

The First Baptist Church in Bloomfield is open to anyone needing shelter. The American Red Cross also is at that location to offer assistance. The church is at 500 Lincoln Drive. For assistance, call the church at (812) 384-8459.
