Two vehicle crash in Vermillion causes multiple injuries; one person in critical

Staff report

Clinton — A two-car crash Friday afternoon on Indiana 163 a half mile east of Clinton left five people injured — one in critical condition.

The accident happened when a westbound motorist going around a curve lost control of her car, spun and collided with an eastbound car, police said.

The injured:

n Amanda Berry, 19, Rosedale, driver of westbound car, alone in car. Listed in fair condition late Friday in Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

n Dawn Guckenberger, 42, Rosedale, driver of eastbound car. Treated in West Central Community Hospital, Clinton, unknown status late Friday.

n Ron Guckenberger, 16, Rosedale. Listed in critical condition, with life-threatening injuries, late Friday in Methodist Hospital.

n Mallory Guckenberger, 8, Rosedale. Treated at the Clinton hospital, unknown status late Friday.

n Tim Johnson, 14, Terre Haute. Taken to the Clinton hospital, unknown status late Friday.

Berry’s car, entering a curve, spun counterclockwise, crossed the double yellow center line and struck the eastbound car, police said. A light rain was a factor in her losing control of the car, they said.

The crash closed the highway for 90 minutes, police said.

Dawn and Mallory Guckenberger were wearing their seat belts, the others were unrestrained, police said, although Berry’s air bag successfully deployed.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
