Dog bite punctures Vigo toddler’s left eye

New Goshen boy taken by helicopter to Indy hospital

Staff report

TERRE HAUTE — A 2 1/2-year-old boy was hospitalized Tuesday after a dog bite punctured his left eye.

The New Goshen boy, whose name was not being released, was taken to Terre Haute Regional Hospital and then flown by helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. His condition could not be determined late Tuesday.

The boy was injured while his mother was housesitting in the 4000 block of East Margaret Avenue while the homeowners were in California, according to Terre Haute police. He put his hand in the food of the homeowners’ Great Dane and the dog bit him.

As the responsible party, his mother was ordered to quarantine the dog until it can be confirmed that it is current on its shots, police said.

Police were not looking at the incident as a criminal matter.
