Driver dies in Greene County accident Saturday morning
Passenger airlifted to hospital in Evansville
BLOOMFIELD — A single-vehicle accident in Bloomfield has left one man dead and one woman in the hospital.
Darrell Thompson, 66, of Bloomfield was driving a 1996 Pontiac Firebird east on Indiana 54 in Bloomfield around 12:30 a.m. Saturday when he left the south side of the road for an unknown reason, according to a Greene County Sheriff’s Department news release.
The vehicle hit two utility poles before hitting a tree on the driver’s side door, leaving Thompson trapped in the car, the news release stated.
Passenger Jackie Haldeman, 38, of Worthington was ejected from the vehicle and was found lying beside the passenger side of the vehicle.
Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene and Haldeman was airlifted to an Evansville hospital.
Haldeman was not listed as a patient at Deaconess or St. Mary’s Riverside Hospitals in Evansville, according to hospital spokeswomen.
Neither Thompson nor Haldeman was wearing seat belts, according to the news release.
