Terre Haute man accused of fatally stabbing son to be tried in October

Prosecutors plan to seek death penalty against Katron Walker

Staff report

TERRE HAUTE — A Terre Haute man accused of fatally stabbing his 4-year-old son appeared in court Tuesday for a pre-trial conference.

Katron Walker, 33, will be tried Oct. 1 in Vigo County Superior Court Division 3.

During Tuesday’s conference, Walker appeared along with his defense team of Jessie Cook and Joe Etling. Judge David Bolk granted several transport orders, allowing Walker to be brought from the Parke County Jail, where he is being detained, to Vigo County at different times in the coming months for depositions, Etling said.

Walker is accused of killing his son Collin and injuring his 2-year-old son, Monte, on June 13 near Blackhawk as police responded to an Amber Alert tip providing information about the boys’ whereabouts.

The prosecution intends to seek the death penalty, if Walker is convicted. An additional pre-trial conference was scheduled for Aug. 8.
