TERRE HAUTE — A Terre Haute man was cited Tuesday morning for leaving the scene of an accident in which two people were injured on the city’s east side.
Harry F. Rogers, 82, told police he was crossing Indiana 46 westbound on Hulman Street around 7:25 a.m. after stopping at the intersection.
Rogers’ car struck a car driven by Jason Farrand, 23, of Terre Haute. Farrand had been traveling northbound on the highway.
After the impact, Farrand lost control of his car, spinning before striking a southbound car driven by David Norris, 21, of Sullivan.
Farrand and Norris both were taken to Terre Haute Regional Hospital and treated for minor injuries.
Rogers told officers after his car collided with the first vehicle, he saw vehicles blocking the roadway so he left the scene, according to the police report. Rogers then drove to his daughter’s home for help.
A witness followed Rogers to his daughter’s house, and officers from the Terre Haute Police Department found Rogers there.
Rogers was taken back to the scene of the accident by his daughter, who told police her father suffers from Alzheimer’s disease.
Rogers was cited for leaving the scene of a personal-injury accident and signed a promise to appear in Terre Haute City Court today.
