Police allege bookkeeper took $100K from business

TERRE HAUTE — A Terre Haute woman faces criminal charges for what police believe involved her taking more than $100,000 from her employer during a three-year period.

Victoria Carlson, 47, appeared via video in Vigo Superior Court 6 on Wednesday where Judge Michael Lewis set her bail at $25,000 with no 10 percent allowed. She will return to Vigo Superior Court 3 on Monday.

Detective David Thompson stated during the hearing that an officer of Advanced Waste Management notified police on July 31 that he had found money missing from the company and he had hired an accounting firm to track it down.

An audit from May 15, 2009, to July 14, 2012, revealed that $103,000 had been taken. Carlson was the bookkeeper for the business. Thompson said Carlson had made checks out to herself and changed the check registry.

Lewis found probable cause for her arrest on a charge of class-D felony theft.
