Academy school bus hit from behind, but no injuries reported

SULLIVAN — There were no reports of injuries Monday afternoon in a Sullivan County accident involving a school bus that carried 45 students.

The accident, investigated by Indiana State Police, happened about 3:30 p.m Monday on Indiana 154 at U.S. 41. The 1998 Freightliner school bus is owned by Rural Christian Academy, a charter school in Graysville.

The eastbound bus, driven by 50-year-old Rosemary Guyer of Merom, was stopped for a red light and struck in the rear by a car driven by 42-year-old Cheryl Pickard of Sullivan.

Neither the bus driver nor students reported injuries. Pickard reported no injuries, but was incarcerated in the Sullivan County Jail for driving while suspended (prior), a Class A misdemeanor.

Pickard was driving while suspended and had previously been arrested for the same offense, police reported. She was released on $400 bail.

Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the crash, according to State Police.

• Earlier Monday, ISP and Sullivan County emergency agencies responded to another crash on U.S. 41.

At 2:34 p.m., a  tractor-trailer loaded with meat and driven by 66-year-old Kenneth Gilles of Haubstadt was stopped for a red light on southbound U.S 41 at Indiana 48.

The semi was struck in the rear by another semi driven by 35-year-old Aaron Prosser of Taylorville, Ill.

Both Gilles and Prosser were treated at Sullivan County Hospital for complaints of pain.

The investigation is ongoing and a commercial motor vehicle inspection of the Prosser vehicle will be completed today.

At this time, no citations have been issued and no evidence of intoxication was found on either driver, according to state police.
