Woman jailed for allegedly stabbing longtime boyfriend after argument

TERRE HAUTE — A Terre Haute woman was arrested late Monday after she allegedly stabbed her longtime boyfriend.

Sandra J. Sherrod, 52, appeared in Vigo Superior Court 3 on Tuesday where Detective Jeff Trotter testified that she had stabbed her boyfriend after an argument.

The alleged victim sustained a small puncture wound to his right shoulder but declined medical treatment after receiving care from medics who responded to the scene in the 200 block of South 16th Street, Trotter said.

Trotter said that Sherrod told investigators that she was upset because she believed that the man was cheating on her with a woman from church. Trotter said the couple reported living together for 11 years.

Police found the weapon used in the stabbing — a black-handled steak knife — inside the home.

Judge David Bolk found probable cause for Sherrod’s arrest on preliminary charges of battery with a deadly weapon and domestic battery. He ordered her bail set at $15,000 with no 10 percent allowed, and set a hearing date of Friday for the filing of formal charges.
