Early Thursday fire destroys Rockville gas station

ROCKVILLE — Authorities are still looking for the cause of a fire that destroyed a gas station in Rockville early Thursday morning.

The fire at the Valero gas station on U.S. 41 North was reported about 2 a.m. It took firefighters about five hours to extinguish the blaze.

The fire largely destroyed the gas station building, but did not ignite the station’s gas tanks. A portion of the building was still standing Thursday, but it was considered a total loss, fire officials said.

One firefighter with the Rockville Fire Department became slightly overheated while fighting the blaze, but he was reported to be back on duty Thursday afternoon.

There were no other injuries reported. The gas station, which is at 600 N. Lincoln Road (U.S. 41), was closed for business when the fire took place.

The Indiana Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the fire, according to the Rockville Fire Department.

In addition to the Rockville Fire Department, other agencies responding included Marshall (Ind.), Bloomingdale, Bellmore and Lyford fire departments.
