Multiple police agencies involved in pursuit of Vigo County man

VIGO COUNTY — Multiple police agencies as well as canine units are involved in the pursuit of a man in northern Vigo County near the Parke County line.

The incident began in Clinton late this morning, when authorities attempted to stop the suspect, Daymon Langley, 23, of northern Vigo County, who was driving a flatbed truck.

Clinton police officer Brian MacLaren knew that Langley was a habitual traffic violator, and attempted to stop Langley, who then sped away, Clinton Police Chief Terry Hollowell said this morning.

Initially, three Clinton police officers pursued Langley. When Chief Hollowell pulled his cruiser alongside Langley’s truck to get him to stop, Langley made a sharp turn to the left, apparently trying to run the chief off the road.

Multiple police agencies then joined the pursuit, which proceeded from Clinton into Parke County and then south on U.S. 41.

In northern Vigo County, Langley pulled off the highway into abandoned farm property owned by AET, Chief Hollowell said. He abandoned his truck in a wooded area near there and ran into the woods. He lives in the area and is familiar with the area, police said.

Terre Haute Police Department and Parke County Sheriff’s Department canine units are involved in the search.

In the past, Langley has built some shacks along a creek in the area to elude law enforcement, and the search continued along that creek and then north toward the Parke County line.

Police believe he might be attempting to get back to his residence on the west side of U.S. 41.

Langley faces a charge of felony fleeing police, with additional charges expected from the Vermillion County Prosecutor’s office.

Among the other agencies involved are the Vigo and Vermillion county sheriff’s departments and Indiana State Police.
