TERRE HAUTE — A man arrested Friday faces a burglary charge related to the theft of two water heaters.

Kim Ford, 23, of Terre Haute, appeared in Vigo Superior Court 3 on Monday, where he was initially charged with burglary.

According to a Terre Haute Police report, Ford was stopped early Saturday at 131⁄2 and Washington streets driving a riding lawnmower that was pulling a trailer loaded with two water heaters. Ford told police that at about 2:30 a.m., a friend had called him to come pick up the water heaters to “scrap for money” at a vacant house in the 1400 block of South 10th Street. Ford said the friend met him at the house, where the water heaters were sitting by the back door ready to be loaded onto the trailer.

Ford remains in the Vigo County Jail with bail set at $30,000, with no 10 percent allowed. Formal charges are to be filed by Wednesday.
