ISP, sheriff’s deputies conducting DUI checkpoint
TERRE HAUTE — Indiana State Police officers and Vigo County Sheriff’s deputies will be conducting a DUI checkpoint Friday in Vigo County. Officers will be observing for impaired drivers, as well as underage drinking drivers.
To expedite the time involved if you are stopped at the checkpoint, drivers are asked to have their driver’s license and registration ready to present to the officer. If no violations or impairment are detected by the officer, motorists should only be delayed a few minutes.
The purpose of the sobriety checkpoint is to remove those motorists from the highways who are alcohol- and/or drug-impaired and who pose a danger to all who use the roadways. Impaired drivers are responsible for billions of dollars in property damage, personal injury and death annually.
To report an impaired driver, contact your local law enforcement agency or dial 911. Reports can be made anonymously.
