Clerk’s call foils trio’s robbery plan

TERRE HAUTE — Three people allegedly involved in an unsuccessful plan to rob a store are being held in the Vigo County Jail.

Michael Blasdel, 22, of Terre Haute, along with Cassandra A. Martin, 22, and Lucas Connor, 22, both of Greensburg, were arrested late Friday after allegedly attempting to rob a discount store in the Southland Shopping Center.

They appeared Monday morning in Vigo Superior Court 3, where Judge David Bolk set their bail at $35,000 each, no 10 percent allowed, on charges of attempted armed robbery. They are to return to court Thursday for filing of formal charges.

Terre Haute Police report that the store manager was cashing out for the night when she saw two subjects wearing face masks standing near the front door. She called police, and when uniformed officers arrived, they found Conner and Blasdel near the store, and Martin waiting in her car parked at a nearby motel.

Connor reportedly told police that he and his girlfriend, Martin, were experiencing financial hardship and they came to Terre Haute to visit Blasdel. The trio reportedly decided to “get some money” by robbing the store.

Both Conner and Blasdel told police that Martin was not involved in the attempted robbery, but she knew their plans and was waiting in her car to pick them up.

When police apprehended the men in the area of the store, they each possessed a loaded handgun and a face mask.
