Roadside help was appreciated

We would like to thank the woman and Vigo County deputy sheriff who helped us with a flat tire recently. We were stranded on McDaniel Road just south of Springhill Road. She very kindly called several places for help in changing the tire, to no avail. She then decided to help me change it.

As we started working, the deputy arrived and pitched in to help complete the job.

Unfortunately, we did not get their names, but we want to thank them for their valuable assistance. Vigo County is most fortunate to have citizens and public employees such as these, and their kindness will not be forgotten.

Reflecting on an editorial passage

What did he just say?

“We would, however, be naive to ignore the potential problems that can occur. One need only look back to the recent fatal shooting of an ISU student outside of a tavern bordering the campus to understand the community must be vigilant in reacting quickly and effectively to safety and security concerns to ensure that tragic incidents such as this remain rare.” — Max Jones Tribune-Star Editor, in an editorial dated Sept. 2, 2012, titled “City continues to develop its college-town personality.”
