Free us from ‘Republicanism’
How interesting it was to see how Charles Bean turned around “Serfdom and Fiefdom” in so many words blaming the poor, the victims in this case, and the government for the poor economy. He speaks of “nonconstitutional times, and nonfreedom” times. Because his letter was printed on the birthday of Charles Dickens, Feb. 7, and because of the contrast of his letter and Mr. Dickens’ body of work, one can easily see how Mr. Bean’s education in English and in history is sorely lacking.
No matter, maybe Mr. Bean will read some of Charles Dickens’ works and then explain how “Republicanism” can save us. In Indiana today we enjoy the freedom of the right-to-work, thanks to the Republicans, and the freedom to pay for the debt that America has accumulated from two wars in the Middle East.
So what is the Republican answer to how we should pay for these wars? Why, abolish Social Security, of course. What concern they are showing for the average American. Perhaps if we thank them by giving them more power to save us from ourselves next election time and maybe if we are good little “subjects” they will lower the taxes on the rich again.
I would like to remind everyone that there really is nothing new under the sun. It does not matter if you call it 1 percent and 99 percent, or the Tea Party or the OWS, the facts are, the rich have became richer and the poor have became poorer and the middle class has shrunk.
So, Mr. Bean, if you are tired of the financial “Serfdom and Fiefdom” you had better re-elect Obama, keep the Democrats in charge of the Senate and get the Republican majority out of Indianapolis and out of the House of Representatives in Washington D.C., and elect a Democrat governor for Indiana. The rich and the fundamentalists should keep their rotten hands off of our Constitution. It is for all of us, not for them to amend.
Aren’t you sick and tired of the idle rich paying a tax rate on their income of 15 percent or less while the rest of us who work for a living have to pay at a top bracket of around 36 percent because the Republicans said that would bring us jobs? Keep in mind that if you vote for Mr. Romney, you are voting for a 1 percenter who paid less taxes on his millions and millions of dollars in income that he didn’t even lift a finger to get than you did on whatever income you had which you worked hard for because you were taxed at a higher rate because you work for a living and you do not live on capital gains and dividends.
Mr. Bean’s letter and his position, if not so pitifully misinformed, would be laughable. However, under the circumstances, it only tends to make one nauseated.

Eagles take pride in group’s work
The Fraternal Order of Eagles has a long-standing tradition of philanthropic work around the United States and Canada. Since 1898, the Order has emphasized helping those in need and building a solid moral foundation within our communities.
In 2008, 700 delegates unanimously approved a five-year, $25 million dollar commitment to the University of Iowa to build The Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center.
Through the Diabetes Research Center, the Eagles look to help find a cure for this debilitating disease that currently affects nearly 30 million people across the United States and Canada. As of Oct. 30, the organization has presented $10 million to the university and is on track to meet the commitment made two years ago in Louisville, Ky., at our annual International Convention.
The project is just the latest in a line of remarkable contributions to society from the Eagles, including the jobs after 40 program. Each year the organization donates millions of dollars to hospitals and charities around North America that help aid people afflicted by a wide range of diseases and hardships.
We take tremendous pride in our work as an organization and feel it is necessary to make the public aware that we are much more than just a corner bar. We invite all of our fellow community members to come out to the local Aerie and find out for themselves what the spirit of people helping people is all about.

Be careful what you strive for
If Indiana were to require that creationism (aka religion) be taught in public schools as an attempt to refute the Darwinian theory, then atheism, agnosticism, and humanism should be required study also.
