Think about soldiers every day, not just holidays

It was a beautiful fall day for the Veterans Day Parade. We are either “in” the parade or “at” the parade on Veterans Day. This year we were “in” the parade. I could hardly believe my eyes when we turned on Wabash Avenue and saw hundreds and hundreds of people there to watch the parade and pay their respects to our fallen hero, Dale Griffin. I was very glad to see the hats/caps that were placed over people’s heart when the American Flag passed. People were saluting and waving flags. It was awesome!

It is too bad that it took a soldier to lose his life before we got together to show our patriotism. We need to show support to our soldiers and not just when a soldier has given the ultimate sacrifice. What more could he give? We should let them know that we are thinking about them.

Do you ever go up to a soldier and tell him “Thank you for taking care of us?” Do you ever send a card or letter?

Our soldiers when sent overseas give up a lot. They give up their families, friends, jobs and the freedoms of living in the United States of America.

Good Samaritan came to shopper’s rescue in store

On Sept. 20, I was shopping at Kroger’s on Highway 41 South. My granddaughter, Paige Sankey, was with me. I began to faint and Paige tried to help me. A fellow shopper came along and picked me up. He carried me all the way to the front of the store.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank him and wish him God’s blessings.

After a few days in the hospital and two units of blood, I am feeling much better.
