Thank you for successful Pioneer Days
Vigo County Parks and Recreation department would like to express its appreciation to the Village Folk and the many volunteers who donated their time and energy to making Pioneer Days and Mini-Pioneer Days a success. This year approximately 5,000 people attended Pioneer Days and 1,200 Vigo County fourth-grade students participated in pioneer activities. The days were filled with interaction, education and entertainment between the volunteers and visitors.
Vigo County Parks and Recreation Department would like to extend a special thank you to Linton Township Fire Department, Vigo County Sheriff’s Reserves, Vigo County School Corp., Jamax, artists, crafters and vendors who provided services or support. The parks department also wants to acknowledge and thank the media and local businesses who advertised the event.
The pioneer village is continuing to expand and develop. Construction of the log schoolhouse will be completed soon, and the Foltz cabin is scheduled to be relocated in late fall, if weather permits. The public is welcome to come out and see the progress!
Fowler Park’s Pioneer Village Christmas Walk will be Dec. 4 and 5. All are welcome to come out and join the festivities.

Don’t believe pot propaganda
There has been some discussion in this column about the pros and cons of “medical marijuana.” Virtually all of the naysayers only know (and believe) the propaganda created in the 1930s by the “legal” drug manufacturers and the alcohol industry. Obviously, none have investigated the facts or are interested in the truth.
I suffer from glaucoma, which could rob me of my sight at any moment. In 1973, physician Tod H. Mikuriya concluded that high interocular pressure causes blindness in glaucoma patients, and that use of marijuana can prevent that blindness. There are “many” more medical applications, but my main concern is my sight.
I don’t suppose I’ll ever understand why people speak against and/or condemn something that they know nothing about. If you haven’t been to war, don’t tell a soldier how to fight! INVESTIGATE!
