TERRE HAUTE —
Station changes unfair to viewers
Losing yet another freedom as a result of Capitalism gone too far, the freedom to watch your state news. Soon you may only watch local and national news if you live in Terre Haute. In case you have Time Warner Cable, you are about to lose Channel 6 ABC. Why? Because Channel 2 bought the ABC affiliate and then paid Time Warner Cable a large amount of money to take it off the air.
Does this bother anyone else but me? Is this the new way to compete? Buy it? I wonder if I can give TW more money to put it back on? Every home in America should be able to watch their local, state and national news.
You will notice that your bill will remain the same — very high — with no credit for one less channel. I missed the five-hour live special “Breakfast at the Brickyard” for the first time since it began, the two hours of news when I get home from work, the Sunday night 30-minute sports special and on and on. What does Channel 2’s new affiliate show during the news hour? “Two and a Half Men” reruns. Another mindless show I am paying $90 a month for. I won’t even mention the difference in picture quality.
Actually, they are supposed to open up for the non-duplicated shows during this time period but they are not even doing that. They just have it off 24/7.
I went through losing Fox 59, Channel 4, Channel 8 Wish, and Channel 13, all in Indy. No credit was given for losing all these channels either.
I finally simmered down because we still had Channel 6. But I am not going to tolerate this loss of freedom. I have spent the weekend talking to the FCC, and wrote letters to many congressmen and senators because laws must be changed. I also wrote to the president.
I lived in Indy for 10 years and love the Colts. I am also talking to Channel 6 about airing their channel online.
My choice, watch Indy news and subscribe to the local newspaper. I support the paper because so many are going under and I feel that it’s our history. I can’t abide Time Warner and Channel 2 controlling what I’m able to watch. I will continue writing letters to our lawmakers to try to get this law changed.
Time Warner Cable should offer all customers a choice of which of the 3,000 stations you want to watch and pay for. I have no interest in the Kardashians, or reality TV. I would love to have the NFL Network, National Geographic, ESPN News, NBC Sports, etc. So I am considering getting an antenna and DISH so I can get 900 channels and all the Indy channels. It would cost far less than the $90 I am paying now, because I am not going to be told what I can watch.
I hope others will join me in this fight. There are four colleges in this town. Surely others want to watch the state news. I can’t be the only one. Let’s fight for the freedom of choice, to watch what we want. This is our chance. Please write your congressmen and tell them we want this changed so we can view what we want in our own homes.

GOP wants to win at all costs
In the June 8 opinion section, one of the GOP faithfuls, Frank Grochowski, accuses Obama of using a long-standing GOP tactic. That tactic is, in Frank’s words, “If you repeat a lie long enough and loud enough, people will accept it.” Frank left out the other side of that GOP coin, which is if you believe in the lie you’re telling, it isn’t a lie.
Frank berates Obama for telling people that the unemployment numbers would be low if the “do-nothing Congress” would pass his jobs bills. Actually Obama is only half right when he says that, because it’s not the fault of the “do-nothing Congress,” it’s because of the Republican obstructionist Congress.
Frank goes after Harry Reid saying that the GOP/Tea Party House has sent bills to the Senate, but Reid won’t bring them up for a vote.
The House has had Senate bills in its possession for over two years. On some of these bills, the GOP/Tea Party doesn’t even know what’s in the bill because they’re never ever going to be recognized.
On the very night that Obama was attending the Inaugural Ball, the GOP assassins were at a high-class steakhouse hatching their plan to “Defeat Obama.”
At this high-class steak house, called “The Caucus Room,” were McConnell, Cantor, Boehner, DeMint, Rand Paul and even Newt Gingrich.
Their plan to make Obama “a one-term president” was direct and simple. Don’t let Obama pass any bills that will create jobs or restore the economy. How would they do this? Not allow any of Obama bills to reach the floor for a vote. If that didn’t work, they would filibuster any that did reach the floor.
If by some miracle one slipped through and came up for a vote, the GOP/Tea Party would vote no. About a month ago, a memo to all GOP/Tea Party congressmen came directly from the main obstructionist, Eric Cantor. This memo was “leaked” to the press and aired on a cable news channel. It said, “From now until August, we will not pass any of Obama’s bills, and then we’ll go on summer break.” That’s not propaganda, that’s fact.
Frank says the Dems don’t want bills to be voted on because then people would know how they voted. Once again, this is the common ploy of the GOP/Tea Party, that’s why they filibuster or stone wall the Senate bills, to avoid a vote.
Yes, facts are stubborn things. They don’t allow themselves to be distorted or manipulated to suit one’s political gain.
As the hot air GOP presidential candidate says, “What’s sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.” But if that line doesn’t play good for him, he’ll change it.
The stubborn facts are the Bush/GOP dictatorship lost your job, and the GOP/Tea Party has kept you from finding another one. And it was all done to “defeat Obama,” making him “a one-term president.”
