Cyclists thankful for St. Ann support

This year, 2012, is the 14th consecutive year the Wabash Valley Motorcycle Club had its annual St. Ann’s Benefit ride and auction.

St. Ann’s Clinic provides medical care to people who have no insurance and no support by either Medicare or Medicaid for their medical needs. St. Ann’s serves all surrounding counties: Vigo, Vermillion, Clay, Sullivan, Parke and also Clark, Edgar, Coles, Crawford, Cumberland, Effingham and Lawrence in Illinois.

With the economy as it is today, our generous donors still came through! WVMC, with 125 members strong, collected $15,740. To date we have collected more than $84,000 for the clinic. Included in our total were proceeds from our “Bushels of Fun” raffle. The winners of the bushels were L. Marlow, R. Mann and A. Conway.

The Wabash Valley Motorcycle Club wishes to sincerely thank all clubs, restaurants, organizations, businesses and individuals that again have donated auction items or money. Also, we would like to thank everyone that purchased tickets and helped make this our best year ever in helping St. Ann’s Clinic.

Chicago’s example on gun control

There is no excuse for murder. However, gun control will not stop it. Chicago is another example of the futility of gun control. Chicago, the unofficial ruler of Illinois, has one of the strictest gun control laws in the nation, yet Chicago and Washington, D.C., are known as the homicide capitals of the nation. No doubt the 12 killed in Colorado is a tragedy. However, the sad truth is Chicago has had that many murdered in a week and never made national news.

Automatic weapons can never be justified for hunting or sports. It has been suggested that their only possible use would be in defense of our constitution, Mom, home and apple pie. It has also been said if the government can sell automatic weapons to the Mexican drug lords, then why not to peaceful American citizens?

Now let’s shift gears and put yourself in the bad guys’ shoes. You are looking for some money to support your drug use, 15 minutes of fame or whatever. Which victim or victims would you approach? In Chicago, where nice people can’t have guns, or Texas or Florida, where nice people can and do have guns and know how to use them. On the assumption your brain is not completely burned up, you should choose your victims well north of the Mason-Dixon line.
