White’s opponent
entitled to office
This is directed to Gov. Mitch Daniels: The verdict convicting Secretary of State Charlie White of election fraud is a test of the electoral process. The voters of Indiana were defrauded by Mr. White in spite of his claims of special circumstances. Were this to be an average citizen convicted of voter fraud, the legal maneuvering attempted by Mr. White would be dismissed immediately.
No doubt Mr. White has personal problems, but only because he is in a high visibility elected position is any judicial consideration given to his requests to have the charges reduced to misdemeanors. He was convicted of a felony by a jury of his peers. Any reduction of the charges from a felony to a misdemeanor is a political ploy.
You, as governor, have an opportunity to restore citizens’ confidence in the electoral system. By immediately appointing Vop Osili, the second-place finisher in last year’s election for the secretary of state, you will show a true interest in the state of Indiana and in the electoral process.
Anything less, such as a temporary appointment of Mr. White’s deputy to fill the position, is a miscarriage of justice. I implore you to do what is right, not what is politically convenient.

Positive moves
for healthy foods
I was delighted to read the new USDA guidelines requiring schools to serve meals with twice as many fruits and vegetables, more whole grains, less sodium and fat, and no meat for breakfast. The guidelines were mandated by the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act signed by President Obama in December of 2010 and will go into effect with the next school year.
The new guidelines offer a welcome change from USDA’s tradition of using the National School Lunch Program as a dumping ground for meat and dairy surpluses. Not surprisingly, 90 percent of American children are consuming excess fat, only 15 percent eat recommended servings of fruits and vegetables, and one-third have become overweight or obese. These early dietary flaws become lifelong addictions, raising their risk of diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.
In recent years, Hawaii, California, New York, and Florida legislatures asked their schools to offer daily vegetarian options, and most school districts now do. Baltimore public schools offer students a complete weekly break from meat.
Parents should continue to insist on healthful plant-based school meals, snacks, and vending machine items.

Thanks from the Super Bowl
XLVI Host Committee
Dear Super Bowl XLVI Community:
“More Than A Game.” This phrase defined the Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee’s playbook from day one. And you were integral in making this happen, ensuring the Super Bowl game impacted this community for years to come.
Thank you to the 133 donor companies who stepped forward in 2008 to financially support the Host Committee and allowed Indiana to secure the bid for Super Bowl XLVI.
Thank you for your partnership and contribution that positively affected more than 250 housing units, attracted new local businesses, and developed the Chase Near Eastside Legacy Center and Indianapolis Youth Education Town on the Arsenal Technical High School campus as part of our Legacy Project.
Thank you to people from 45 different states, Washington D.C., and four other countries outside of the United States who handcrafted more than 13,000 Super Scarves as gifts to our volunteers and frontline hospitality employees.
Thank you to children from all 92 Indiana counties who gave our guests a warm welcome with “Super Kids, Super Welcome” coloring cards placed in more than 18,000 hotel rooms.
Thank you to more than 100 local schools who registered to participate in “Super Kids Super Sharing” and donated sports equipment, books, and school supplies to less advantaged school-age students.
Thank you to the 15,000 people who completed Super Service training and are still working hard today to provide locals and ticketholders with excellent customer service.
Thank you to 32 student ambassadors who delivered the Indianapolis bid to NFL team owners in 2008 and continued to participate in Super Bowl programs through 2012, their senior year of high school.
Thank you to 1st & Green participants, the Green Corps, Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, RecycleForce, and organizations that made our state shine brighter and “greener” for the Super Bowl.
Thank you to companies who participated in the NFL Emerging Business program and provided NFL contractors with needed services to operate a Super Bowl.
Thank you to Traci Runge, Lisa Miller, the Indy’s Super Cure team, and hundreds of other people that donated their time, money, and even breast tissue to the Komen Tissue Bank so that we are closer to finding a cure to breast cancer.
Thank you to the 900 volunteers who assembled Super Baskets of Hope for 7,000 hospitalized children across the country.
Thank you to our XLVI Faces who showed us how special it is to be Hoosiers and make daily commitments to improving their communities.
Thank you to our dedicated 8,000 volunteers and more than 800 committee members who gave an excess of 150,000 hours of their time, intelligence, and passion to Super Bowl programs.
Thank you to our Board of Directors and their leadership toward a great victory!
Thank you to everyone who touched and was touched by the Super Bowl.
You did it! And this community is better because of your efforts.

Doctor’s diet plan
helps her arthritis
One of the six most prevalent diseases of older persons is arthritis. With over 100 different forms of arthritis, the usual one seniors suffer with is osteoarthritis. This condition can be the result of age, trauma or infection of the joint. Pain and stiffness are the results of the disease and unfortunately, both symptoms can worsen over time.
If you are suffering the pain of arthritis there is a book that was originally published in 1972 by Parker Publishing Co. The author is a doctor of osteopathy who outlines diet changes and methods that will stop the progression of arthritis, and in many thousands of cases cured severe cases of advanced arthritis.
My health is very good, but three months ago I noticed that two of my fingers were swollen at the first knuckle (the one closest to my fingernail) and one finger is slightly bent. It’s impossible to bend that first joint or knuckle. Some other fingers have enlarged knuckles, although I can still bend them.
There’s also a knot on my right wrist which I attribute to using the computer mouse more than I probably should. During a routine exam a doctor told me that was arthritis. I tried denial, but the knot still hurt when I bent my wrist a certain way. I also was having pain in my upper right arm from the elbow to the shoulder and I didn’t like that either.
About one month ago I started having back pain when I would get up each morning. It hurt if I bent over to put on my socks or to pick up something. Even dressing was painful. I could receive relief if I took a hot shower and used camphor and lotions on my back. That was awkward to apply and smelly on me and on my clothes. Even though the back pain would be gone by noon, I wasn’t happy with the situation. I’ve always been healthy with no pain, and these new happenings made me feel like I might actually be growing old.
For many years I’ve had a book called “A Doctor’s Proven New Home Cure for Arthritis” which I kept because some day it might help one of my friends.
On Jan. 6, I started using the suggestions offered by the author, Dr. Giraud W. Campbell, D.O. The first instruction is to go on a 24-hour food fast. Water is allowed. I did OK for 20 hours and then I ate a little.
There are many food restrictions, which I’ve continued to honor hoping for pain relief. I’m amazed that I’ve had no cravings for all the foods and beverages that are now off limits on this diet to pain-free living.
I have followed the instructions in the book faithfully for two weeks. I was amazed when after only one week on this program, my back stopped hurting! What a relief!
I’ve continued following the doctor’s eating recommendations, and the pains are now gone from my fingers and arm. I still can’t bend that first joint in the affected fingers, but they no longer hurt! The book describes how thousands of others have followed this doctor’s recommendations and received complete relief from very severe arthritis.
If you want to learn about Dr. Campbell’s suggestions, check Amazon or wherever you buy your books. Your library may have a copy. I’ve lost several pounds, which I didn’t need to do since I only weighed 110. This might be helpful to some others, though.
I’ve yearned for long fingernails most of my life. It’s a miracle that I now have 10 fingernails that are very strong and grown beyond my finger tips. That’s never happened before.
I think if my nails are responding so well to the new food program, then the rest of my body must be doing so also. It would be great if my bones and joints are restored as well as my nails have been.
I’m not selling anything, but just wanted to share this encouragement with other arthritis sufferers. If it worked for the thousands described in the book and it has worked for me, I feel it’s important to share this good news. I’ve given up many of the foods and beverages that I have enjoyed all my life, but to be without pain is more than worth it.
I’m in the phone book if you can’t find Dr. Campbell’s book and want more information.

A few thoughts
moving forward
These are an old man’s thoughts on a direction for this country:
1. World Trade — we need a mandate to say we can’t import more than we export dollar wise if we want jobs in this country.
2. Borders — on immigration, I say people wanting to visit the USA will be carded and tracked with a GPS device. They may enter for up to nine months and then leave for three months. They can hold only seasonal agricultural jobs in the USA.
3. Federal Tax — I say tax all income as earned income with a progressive tax rate and personal exemptions. Have no grants, no credits, no exemptions and no cap on Social Security for the individual taxpayer.
4. Military — other than honor guards, etc., bring home the military soon as practicable. In the future if we come up against a problem we can’t solve take it to the United Nations. If they decide to police the problem then do it under the U.N. name. If we can’t live with that then declare war. Tell the people of that country ahead of time what structures will be destroyed until their submission. We put no troops on the ground and we do no rebuilding of their country afterwards.
5. Health Care — everyone should be responsible for the first $50,000. When you go over that amount the government will cover the rest for that year.
6. Education — kindergarten through 12 years of public education as we know it will be provided. All higher education is to be paid by the individual or the government would loan 80 percent of the cost to be paid back with interest.
