Take control of do-nothing reps
As I sit down to write this letter, part of me wants to say “I give up” and become totally apathetic. But part of me is so angry, frustrated, feeling incredibly powerless and wanting to find some way to take action.
What is churning all of this emotion? It is our inept, self-serving, irresponsible Congress. The persons we elected. The persons we hired to be our spokespersons. This group of individuals who currently have a national approval rating of 9 percent out of 100 percent is flagrantly disrespectful and indifferent to those of us who employed them. We have allowed these buffoons to develop the power and control to vote themselves raises whenever they wish, and to take weeks and weeks of vacations even though their productivity is next to nothing.
Constituents across the country — yes, even here in Indiana — have sent emails and letters, made phone calls, twittered and more, telling their representatives and senators to compromise, to work together, to stop name-calling and cross-blaming and to work. If I hear House Speaker Boehner utter “kicking the can down the road” once more, I will vomit. He is the poster child for the ineptitude. More often than not with that school-yard bully smirk on his face.
What do we get in reply to our expectations? More and more gridlock and our money for their salaries pouring down a black hole with nothing to show for it. These people bring shame to themselves and their families, the institution they pledged to serve and to the country they represent.
How often do we hear these individuals bemoan the health-care program. Medicare and pharmaceuticals. But wait! What do they care who has health care, how much it costs and what it covers? Each of them is set for life with coverage we are paying for, whether or not we have any. Each of them will leave the Congress with full retirement paychecks, again paid for by you and me, regardless of whether we have any retirement funds.
So what do they care if our unemployment benefits run out and our taxes are raised after the first of the year. It's Christmas break. Sorry!
What has happened to us as a people? Why are we letting this go on? Why do we keep re-electing these fools?
In the private sector, except maybe on Wall Street, they would not get away with being such dysfunctional employees. They would be fired, handed a box to put their stuff in and shown to the door. Maybe we need to go that as a group to the Washington offices of each of our representatives and senators, pack their stuff and take them to the door. They’re not doing anything important anyway, so why should we keep paying this “do-nothing Congress.” I know, that sounds too aggressive. So what's the alternative? Wait until the next election cycle and vote the bums out?
Remember, they are slick, they are fast-talking and they are skilled survivors. Funding for a university building, funding to build a bridge to nowhere and, voila, re-elected.
I'm not a Tea Party person, but they were on to something when they went to local town hall meetings and press conferences and confronted their legislators, calling them on their platitudes and rambling babble.
As I reach this point in my letter, I see more clearly that we must blame ourselves for this condition. We allow ourselves to be used and abused by these people. We allow ourselves to be gullible and apathetic and to be easily taken for granted by these bad employees. Until we as employers stop complaining and moaning because the people we hired stink to high heaven, we deserve what we get, which right now is more of the same. Nothing!
