TERRE HAUTE —

Great help from several people with furry friends

Recently I had to have help with two separate incidents that involved rescuing stray female dogs and puppies. I had the pleasure of working with Vigo County’s Animal Control officer, Tim Taylor.

Mr. Taylor is an asset to Vigo County. Not only does he do his job in a professional manner, but he has a heart of gold when it comes to the well-being of animals. I wish to publicly thank him for helping me.

There were many other individuals who helped with these endeavors and need to be thanked: Anita at Harmony Haven, Linda Plew, Bob Deal, Brad Fortner, John Huey, Frank Prohaska, Carol Briggs and, last but not least, Kelly with the Parke-Vermillion Shelter, and staff. I will never forget your caring and compassion.

On a final note, there is a big demand for donations to continue helping our furry friends who are abandoned. Please donate now or any time to Harmony Haven, the Parke-Vermillion Shelter or the Spay-Neuter League, as donations are always needed and appreciated.

Sad to see closings in town

What’s going on in Terre Haute?

Beef O’Brady’s, Lone Star Steakhouse and Fashion Bug have all closed. Stay tuned for three more going down. Very sad.

Fervor should be spread fairly to all fields

I’d like to applaud Vigo schools Superintendent Danny Tanoos’ effort to have former Terre Haute North punter voted into the NFL Pro Bowl. The job of superintendent is surely a multi-faceted one, but I am positive that the election of a former student to a post-season all-star game is one of his most important tasks.

I wonder if Mr. Tanoos has made a similar effort to help other Vigo County graduates in their professional endeavors in non-athletic fields? It appears that the way to make sure that you are supported by the leadership of the Vigo County school system is to be able to accurately place a football inside the 20 yard line.

The article notes that “Committees were put into place near the beginning of the school year to coordinate VCSC’s efforts to help Weatherford’s Pro Bowl cause.” This is what Vigo County taxpayer dollars are funding?

I commend Mr. Weatherford for any and all efforts he has made to help Vigo County children — we should all give our time and money to help those less fortunate.

However, I look forward to the day when Vigo County is celebrating its doctors, philanthropists, engineers and artists with the same fervor as it professional athletes.
