Science from the heavens
Folks, I am Senator Dennis Kruse, and I am here today to talk about the gospel … uh, the Senate bill that I have introduced. Senate Bill (SB) 89 states, “The governing body of a school corporation may require the teaching of various theories concerning the origin of life, including creation science, within the school corporation.” This secular bill was approved by the Committee on Education and Career Development, which by chance, I happen to chair. It is now in the hands of unbiased Christians in the full Senate.
Creation science requires no supporting evidence, because it comes directly from God … our God. It is true that the human body makes the Edsel look like an example of fine craftsmanship, but this is not a reason to believe in ebolooshun. Even God can have an off-day.
I know that some of you are worried that an activist judge will find SB 89 unconstitutional. Yes, the Supreme Court did wrongly rule in Edwards v. Aguillard that teaching creationism as science in public schools is unconstitutional. And yes, just a few years ago, a misinformed U.S. District Court ruled that intelligent design is not science. OK, other biased rulings have also gone against creationism. But, I have seen the light. God gave Governor Daniels an extra 300 million dollars, so that Indiana could fight for creation science.
Inclusion of creation in our science curriculum would bring Indiana to the attention of the world. Just look at all the positive publicity that Kansas received when its State Board of Education embraced intelligent design. I dare say that by embracing creation science, Indiana Republicans would quickly overshadow any memory of their brethren in Kansas.
Right now, students in Indiana lag behind most of the industrialized world in science knowledge. Devoting instructional time to creation science would eliminate this disparity.
Indeed, once creation-science questions start appearing on standardized tests, our students will ascend Jacob’s ladder to heavenly recognition.
Recently, the National Council on Teacher Quality gave Indiana a grade of C-plus for education policies. Can you imagine how high our grade would be if we move out front with creation science? It just boggles the mind.
Republicans have given you guns-at-work and right-to-work, so trust us to bring you God-in-science. Hallelujah.

Unions exist to aid the worker
A few thoughts and a couple of facts on the so-called right-to-work movement. All of us who are in or have been in the work force can relate to this. You can be the absolute best at your job, but if you have a boss that is hell-bent on making your life miserable, you can relate to what I am about to say.
Having a recourse to solve your problem, and I mean a legitimate problem, is sometimes worth more than money. Working under pressure makes your life stressful to say the least.
This recourse in unionism is called the grievance procedure. You have some control over your working conditions with it. This comes via of negotiations and of course the letter of the law. Many aspects, other than the example I have given here, are many. There are many instances other than the one I have cited. Usually the problems are few because you have recourse. Not dictatorial but just humane.
We all want to make a living for our families and ourselves. Not a minimum, but want the same that the company wants. If we make money for them we should be compensated for that effort. Not too complex, right? We want them to be successful. We are not against this company but are for our people.
Not all the bosses were the way cited here. You would have to be naive to believe that. I’ve had good bosses and bad. Also I didn’t always agree with my fellow union members. But that is part of life. It’s called compromise. But you still need to have that avenue of recourse. And it also helps in cutting out some of the shameful politics.
The second point I would like to make is sitting across from you from a negotiating table is someone who doesn’t want to be there. A contract limits the power they have over you.
All you want is what’s fair for everybody. Union dues, I felt, were the best insurance premium, and the cheapest, that I ever paid in my life.
