Change needed in prison approach

It is believed that convicted criminals are put in a jail as a punishment, but do they really get any punishment?

In British India in the past, the criminals in the jails were made to work to earn some money to pay for a part of their meals. For rehabilitation after the jail term, they were given professional training like making dresses, carpets, furniture and other useful items with canes and bamboos. They were also made to work on the government land to produce fruits and vegetables for the jail.

But in the USA the jails are turned into recreational facilities for the convicted criminals. They get free food, clothes, shelter and medical treatment. They watch TV and play ball games and enjoy a comfortable living with our money. One without money or any job can just smoke marijuana or do some minor crime to be in the jail to get free food, clothes, medicines and entertainment. Even one needing expensive surgical treatment can get that done for free simply by doing some minor crime to be in the jail.

To give them moral lessons, priests go to the jails, but does anyone really learn anything morally good?  Now for religious freedom and equality, Muslim mollahs go to the jails and talk to the criminals about the greatness of Islam. As the prisoners, who are already angry with the government that put them in the jail in the first place, become easy victims and  some are converted not just into Muslims but also into violent terrorists to destroy us.

Should not we do what the British did for India in the past?

Boosters give great support

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the West Vigo Athletic Booster Club for all the hard work and dedication that it has done to support our athletes and teams during this past year.

With the help of many volunteers who work the concession stands and our annual golf outing, the booster club along with two local sponsors (IBEW and First Financial Bank) were able to purchase a new wrestling mat for our wrestling team.

The booster club also purchases awards for our student-athletes, provides a great dinner at our awards banquet, and grants a yearly scholarship for a female and male athlete who will be continuing their education at a post-secondary institution. Each member of this organization volunteers numerous hours each month to help provide supplies and equipment necessary for our student athletes to be successful.

Thank you for all you do.
