Stand against fed harassers
Here is a press release I would love to see:
From the office of the Mayor — for immediate release:
The ever-growing encroachment of America’s civil liberties by the federal leviathan has recently reared its ugly head in our fair city of Terre Haute. It has come to the mayor’s attention that one of our citizens has been harassed by the Secret Service for exercising his constitutionally protected right of freedom of speech. This is an affront to all freedom-loving Americans, particularly to the citizens of our city with its rich history of political activism and expression.
While there is not much that can be done to thwart such unlawful behavior in other parts of the country, it is the duty of this office to protect the citizens in its jurisdiction. Toward that end, the mayor of the city of Terre Haute hereby directs the chief of police to offer uniformed protection for any within its borders who feel harassed by any federal officer without warrant.
Additionally, the mayor calls on all good merchants of Terre Haute to deny service to federal officials who are here to harass our citizens. Such harassers are to be considered persona non grata within the limits of our city.
The mayor wishes to show strong and unwavering support for freedom of political speech. Any attempts by any agencies to dampen or quell such speech will be met with active opposition by this office. The mayor calls on all Terre Hauteans to join him in presenting a united front against the un-American behavior recently exhibited by the Orwellian Secret Service.

GOP’s war on women is real
I’d like to respond to the syndicated column by Byron York. He says the stories about the GOP waging war on women is phony.
To appease and pander to their right-wing base, the GOP is trying to destroy Planned Parenthood, a group that gives free services to women in need. Services that include pap smears and mammograms. They do this to protect their high-dollar campaign donors, the insurance companies, and garner votes from the religious right. The GOP has tried to pass laws that deny insurance coverage for contraceptives. Don’t we have enough hungry children already? You don’t hear any talk about cutting insurance coverage for Viagra.
The GOP also wants to repeal the so-called Lilly Ledbetter Law that gives women the same wages as men doing the same job.
The GOP is waging many wars to include but not limited to the war on the poor, middle class, workers’ rights, social safety nets, Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security.
At the same time it is working feverishly to give more tax breaks to the wealthy and corporate moguls. It’s all part of the big picture to defeat Obama at all cost. But the GOP won’t pay the price for it.
