U.S. should take care of itself first
I sympathize with the people of any country that has a natural disaster such as Haiti. My only problem is, it is very underdeveloped.
My problem is the majority know they live on and in an area that regularly gets hurricanes, floods and earthquakes, yet they multiply like flies. And the U.S. always comes in like the Lone Ranger to save the day. We’ve done this hundreds of times.
We had Hurricane Katrina, and people in the U.S. still need homes since Katrina. We have people unemployed in the U.S., we have people in cities like Terre Haute, Indy, and all over the U.S. that sleep in shelters and under bridges and where’s their help?
We have crime, we have drugs, we have problems in the U.S., we have parents who have kids they can’t feed. Where’s their help? I was taught that charity begins at home. Home is the USA. No other country will help us. They’ll help themselves to their advantage and take advantage of us. Like, for example, the oil cartels of Saudi Arabia — 70-plus dollars for a barrel of oil. Let’s park a carrier or two and embargo their butts and tell them to lower your price of oil or starve and eat your oil. I’d bet the price would come down to $40 a barrel in two or three months. It’s all about greed, politics and money.
There are many more people that are poor than the rich. There’s no middle class, the rich get richer and poor get poorer. That’s not how George Washington, Abe Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt wanted America.
Let’s save ourselves first, then worry about the rest of the world.

Tanoos showed caring leadership
This letter is to thank our Vigo County School Superintendent Danny Tanoos and Principal Tom Balitewicz for showing great care for the student-athletes and coaches at West Vigo High School last Monday night.
The coaching staff contacted Mr. Balitewicz as to the road conditions and he contacted Mr. Tanoos as we were traveling back from a basketball game at Owen Valley High School. Mr. Tanoos risked his own personal safety to meet our team bus just west of Bowling Green and lead us back to West Vigo High School as we battled the snow and ice. He was immediately in contact with coaches and our bus driver, Carrie Compton, (who did an amazing job keeping our bus on the road!), as to our whereabouts and without hesitation, drove in those treacherous conditions to ensure we returned safely.
That night, Mr. Tanoos demonstrated how much he cares for both the students and staff of our great school corporation and because of that leadership, I believe that is one of the reasons why we are the best in the state of Indiana.
