Be wary what you vote for

At the RNC convention, we heard the GOP/tea party rant and rave about “Taking Back America,” and if elected that’s exactly what they’ll do. They’ll take us back to the Bush Years and put in place a ramped-up version of the same policies that brought America and the middle class to the brink of disaster and extinction.

The Paul Ryan Budget Plan, the GOP/tea party road map, calls for making the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy permanent, and gives additional tax cuts to them. The GOP/tea party leaders have already talked about starting a war with Iran. Then they can name no-bid GOP contractors to funnel your tax dollars back to the RNC to re-elect them.

They’ll put the cost of this war on the credit card and if they’re not re-elected they’ll blame the next president for the deficit they left him. They’ll go back to the days of no rules or regulation on the banks or Wall Street (Ryan’s words, not mine), so they can run the scams and con games as they did under Bush. Then when Wall Street and the banks go belly up, the taxpayer can foot the bill for a bailout, as they also did before Bush was run out of town.

They’ll also go back to the days when the insurance industry reigned supreme, charging outrageous premiums, then rejecting and denying you when you make a claim. They’ll accelerate the war on the middle class and continue to decimate the hourly worker. These are not just things done from the Oval Office, but also Congress and the Indiana legislature.

While I have your attention, I’m told that the GOP propaganda ministers have gone into the movie business. They’ve released a “film” depicting Obama turning America into a third world country controlled by liberal socialists.

In case any of you don’t know what a third world country is, let me enlighten you. It is where there are only the rich and the poor, no in-between. The poor are totally dependent on the rich to “trickle down” everything the poor need to maintain a meager existence.

In a third world country there is no Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid. There are no voter IDs, because there aren’t any elections, the select few make the laws. There is no education, no minimum wage, no women’s rights, or any rights for the people.

All of the situation I’ve listed is what we see the GOP/Tea Party striving for here in America. So who is it that wants to make America a third world country?

In the time before November they’ll be hundreds of GOP attack ads, paid for by mega-millionaires, both foreign and domestic. They’ll be paying for those ads for the first solid step to establish the conditions I’ve listed above. They have not and won’t be telling you what they plan to do on some major issues. Remember, if you elect them and find out you elected the wrong party, there aren’t any do-overs.

In answer to Ron Gore’s question, “Why is Bill Clinton so revered,” I’ll answer that with the help of a GOP Congress, he created jobs, grew the economy, treated everyone fair on taxes, balanced the budget and left a $5.5 trillion surplus. Your GOP has never tried to do any of the above. The no vote in the GOP/tea party-controlled House, and the filibuster in the Senate, prove that. As someone said, “The GOP wants to drown the captain, even if it means sinking the ship.”

Don’t get totally lost in the national elections and overlook the Indiana elections. If the GOP loses on the national scene, and they gain the super majority in Indiana legislature, they’ll use that super majority to legislate, dictate and make the laws. They won’t even need a Democrat to show up in either section of government. And again if this happens and you once again have buyer’s remorse, there aren’t any do-overs.

— Ron Hastings
