Strong effort on soccer tourney

A beautiful blue sky and perfect playing conditions greeted the players, coaches, and spectators on the morning of June 20 at the Hautean Header 3v3 soccer tournament. On behalf of the Vigo County Youth Soccer Association (tournament host and sponsor) I would like to thank those who made this year’s event a success.

Without the support of the executive committee of the Board of Directors this event simply would not take place; thanks to Wayne Harpenau, president, Bill Cox, vice-president, Mike Mauriello, treasurer, and John Chrzanowski, risk manager. John also served as Head Field Marshall and was on hand to deal with concerns and questions.

The following board members also contributed to the success of the tournament: Ward Hubbard, awards and tournament official; Amy Frederick, pre-registration; Bob Rhodes, public relations, Eric Guptil, field management; and Dave Abrams and Scott Thomas, referee coordination. Rosemary Hubbard coordinated the concession stand; Rita Senseman coordinated the efforts of the tournament volunteers. Those who stepped up for the Club were Kevin Aue, Hailey Chrzanowski, Janet Fredrich, Pam Kerr, Jill Lucas, Dan Pictor, Lauren Pictor, Sue Pictor, Anne Ruark, Debbie Schmidt, Sarah Senseman, Mat Tramel, and Heather Wilkinson. Thank you everyone.

We were fortunate in that there were only a few minor injuries during the eight hours of competition. The participants were under the care of the Union Hospital Sports Medicine. Thanks to Charlie Welker and the entire sports medicine staff.

Over sixty games were played Saturday and each game was in the capable hands of a qualified referee. Thanks to the following seven individuals who blew the whistles: Kyle Baker, Louis Glascock, Travis Glascock, Ron Humpolick, David Kennel, Rob Murray, and John Thompson … well done gentlemen.

And a job well done by the players who participated in this year’s tournament, representing teams from Clay County, Putnam County, Tippecanoe County and Vigo County. And congratulations to the tournament winners: Flyer Boys 9, Bill Cox 9, Flyer Boys 11, Bobby Rhodes, Primetime One, Shankers FC, I love Pi, Pink Panthers, and The Greens.

Once again, thanks.

— Greg Ruark

Tournament Director
