Kid’s Hope Program makes a difference
January is the month we honor our mentors. The Vigo County School Corp. is extremely grateful to the numerous mentors that volunteer their time with our students on a weekly basis. One mentoring group in each of the 18 elementary schools is the Kid’s Hope Program.
The program began nearly 10 ago when World Gospel Church implemented the first program at Meadows Elementary School. The Kid’s Hope Program has spread throughout the elementary schools due to the tremendous impact it has made upon the children. The Kid’s Hope Program has also made a positive impact upon the mentors as they experience the joy of working with one student each week as they make a difference in their lives.
At Farrington Grove, United Methodist Temple Church implemented the Kid’s Hope Program four years ago under the leadership of Jill Kuckewich, the program director. Mentors from United Methodist Temple donate one hour each week to work with our children on their academics and play games. While the mentors and students work and play, they are able to provide guidance and support to the children. They develop a special relationship as the mentor stays with the same student through elementary school.
At Farrington Grove there are 20-plus trained mentors to work with the children. The program will hopefully reach even more children in the years to come as more people are able to volunteer their time through the program and make a difference in the lives of our children.
