TERRE HAUTE —
Indiana State senior linebacker Aaron Archie has been named the Missouri Valley Football Conference Defensive Player Of The Week for his efforts in the Sycamores’ 23-7 road victory over Western Illinois on Saturday night.
Archie is the second consecutive Sycamore to win the award after Johnny Towalid captured the same honor last week after a victory at North Dakota State.
Archie led a spectacular defensive effort for Indiana State that kept Western Illinois off-balance for the entire contest. He posted a team-high 11 tackles, including one for a loss, with a quarterback hurry as the Sycamores broke a string of seven road losses at Macomb.
Archie leads the MVFC in tackles per game and has recorded double-digit tackles in all eight games this season. ISU’s defense allowed just five first downs and held Western Illinois to just 144 yards of total offense.
Indiana State and Southern Illinois share the MVFC lead with 4-1 records, with North Dakota State and South Dakota State both at 3-1.
The Sycamores begin a two-game homestand with a 2:05 p.m. game this Saturday against South Dakota. The game will be televised on ESPN3.
