ST. CHARLES, MO. — Regular-season Missouri Valley Conference champion Illinois State jumped ahead early against the Indiana State women's basketball team, and the Sycamores could never find the offense to recover Friday in The Family Arena.
ISU leading scorer Kelsey Luna was held scoreless until late in the second half and finished with two points. Sophomore center Shannon Thomas led the way with 13 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots.Kelsie Cooley and Amanda Pedro each added 10 points.
“In the first half, I thought we played extremely well defensively," ISU assistant coach Clint Weddle said. "Had we made a shot or two, it would have changed the momentum. You have to give them a tremendous amount of credit for stopping us on the offensive end. There were multiple opportunities that could have been game changers. They were a very good basketball team.”
The Sycamores shot 27.1 percent in the game, while Illinois State came out hot in the second half, shooting 52.9 percent in the second half to outscore the Sycamores 46-25.
ISU finishes its season 17-14.
