3 brothers sentenced in Midwest human smuggling

INDIANAPOLIS — Federal prosecutors in Indianapolis say three brothers have been sentenced to prison for running an operation that smuggled women into the United States and forced them into prostitution throughout the Midwest.

Court documents allege the men brought in women from Mexico and Central America and marketed them as prostitutes to Hispanic men in Indiana, Michigan, Illinois and Ohio. Prosecutors say the operation was based in Indianapolis.

Gregorio Hernandez-Castilla of Indianapolis was sentenced Wednesday to more than three years in prison after he pleaded guilty to conspiring to operate an interstate prostitution ring with his two brothers. Jose Luis Hernandez-Castilla of Indianapolis and Norberto Hernandez-Castilla of Addison, Ill., had already pleaded guilty and are serving more than four years on similar charges.

A dozen other defendants face charges in the operation.
