The pleasure of your company is requested at a bridal showing given by the Vigo County Historical Museum. The showing will be from 1 to 4 p.m. through Aug. 15. It may be viewed every afternoon except Monday. Called “Here Comes the Bride,” wedding gowns, veils, mother-of-the-bride dresses, and beautiful accessories, are displayed in this summer’s special exhibit. The gowns range in age from the late 1800s through the mid-1980s and were chosen from an extensive collection belonging to the Vigo County Historical Society. They were selected for their variety of style, fabric, and time period.
Centering the exhibit is an elegant white satin gown worn by Maryanne Evans Roehm at her marriage to Joseph Roehm on Aug. 10, 1947. Both bride and groom are represented in the attire worn by Jane Cunningham at her marriage to Kenneth Hazledine on July 27, 1935. Miss Cunningham wore a stunning creation hand knit by her sister-in-law, Ione Cosette Hazledine Thornton. Mr. Hazledine’s suit, also on display, is white linen. Caroline Frerichs made her own elaborate gown for her wedding to Jacob Rassel on Sept. 19, 1912. Made of patterned satin, it is embellished with beading and delicate pearls droplets. These are just a few represented in the array of bridal apparel.
Dresses worn by Flora Buzash, Barbara Carney, Harriet Darrow, Marylee Hagan, mothers of the bride or groom, create a sea of pastels in the display room’s bay window.
Plan to attend the Museum’s bridal showing this summer. You may come and go at your leisure and no gifts are required.
