Billy Newton has put his name in the boys basketball scoring records at Shakamak High School.
The senior standout became the all-time scoring leader at the school Friday night when he scored 31 points against Owen Valley as the Patriots nipped the Lakers 59-57.
Those 31 points gave Newton 1,850 points in his four seasons at Shakamak. Michael Allen established the old record of 1,822 points in 1990.
Newton’s total also puts him in the Top 85 on the Indiana career scoring list. His total is second among seniors in the state this season.
Newton has the chance to add to his totals in the postseason starting Tuesday when the Lakers meet Union in the Class A White River Valley Sectional.
