PREP ROUNDUP: Rhagen Smith scores 37, becomes Sullivan's all-time leading scorer

SULLIVAN — Sullivan girls basketball has a new all-time leading scorer after Rhagen Smith posted a career-high 37 points Thursday in a 66-34 win against South Knox.

Smith surpassed Daria Weitekamp for top honors, giving the 6-foot-2 Indiana State recruit 1,477 points for her career.

Caelan Jones added 16 points for the Golden Arrows, now ranked No. 5 in Class 2A.

Boys basketball

• Eastern, WRV win — At Switz City, Eastern and White River Valley were winners in Greene County Invitationals games played Thursday at WRV.

Two-time defending champ Eastern defeated Clay City 55-35 and the host Wolverines bested Bloomfield 46-23. The Thunderbirds and WRV  meet in the second semifinal contest tonight following the Linton-Shakamak game.

Clay City had a 12-11 lead over Eastern after one period in the first game but trailed 25-17 at halftime.

The Thunderbirds ran off 14 straight points and outscored the Eels 20-5 in the third period for a 45-22 advantage.

Nathan Sparks led 9-1 Eastern with 14 points. Tyler Brough had 10, Kurtis Stille eight and Briar Martindale seven for the winners.

Blake Cesinger had 11 for the 4-5 Eels, seeing limited action in the second half after getting into foul trouble. Evan Rogers had five for the Eels.
