Cameron, McGee visiting South football

TERRE HAUTE — Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron and former NFL tight end Tony McGee will be visiting Terre Haute South to give back to their alma mater this week.

Cameron, who has also served as head coach at Indiana University and for the Miami Dolphins, and McGee began their athletic careers at South.

Longtime friend Howard Mills began talking with Cameron about helping the football program at South when Cameron returned for his basketball jersey retirement on Feb. 26.

“He still keeps in touch with those guys and thought it would be a neat experience for them,” said Raetz, who is 7-23 heading into his fourth year as South’s coach.

With Cameron’s expertise with running an offense and McGee’s experience as an NFL tight end (1993-2003), Raetz hopes the experience can help the Braves’ players and coaches.

South will practice Wednesday and Thursday from 8 to 10 a.m. and only quarterbacks and receivers will work out from 1 to 3 p.m.

“It’s all in preparation for the season,” Raetz said. “We’re installing a lot of stuff on both sides of the ball. It’s just to get better and ultimately it’s an experience that not many high school kids get, to be coached by a current NFL coordinator, and a former NFL player.”

“[Cameron] will be able to give us suggestions and help us improve our technique. Not only good for the players but the coaches.”
