CASEY, Ill. —
The Georgetown-Ridge Farm Buffaloes are in the championship game of the Casey-Westfield Class 2A Regional for boys high school basketball teams.
The No. 4-seeded Buffaloes gained their spot in Friday’s title tilt by defeating top-seeded Marshall 70-59 in semifinal action Tuesday.
Casey meets Robinson, winner of 10 in a row, tonight to determine Georgetown’s opponent in the final game.
Marshall got off to a good start against the Buffaloes and held a 14-11 lead after one period but it was all Buffaloes in the second period as they scored the first nine points of the quarter and outscored the Lions 29-7 in the eight minutes and held a 40-21 lead at halftime.
Marshall got within eight in the third canto and trailed 46-36 going into the final frame when the Lions once cut the lead to six, but the Buffaloes hit free throws to secure the victory.
Taylor Maurer had a double-double to lead the 21-7 Lions with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Jacob Duncan hit four 3-pointers in the last period and finished with 18 points.
Matthew Hay led the 24-4 Buffaloes with 20 points, giving him 45 in two regional games. Korie Vire tallied 17 and he has 39 in two games, while Ryan Dieu also was in twin digits for the winners with 16 points.

Next — Georgetown-Ridge Farm (24-4) will play for the championship Friday night. Marshall concluded a 21-7 season.

• Panther honored — Riverton Parke’s Sara Dickey has been named the Fever Player of the Week from District 2 by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.
Dickey helped the Panthers to the first girls basketball regional title in the high school’s history by scoring 26 points and grabbing 15 rebounds in a 62-58 win over Randolph Southern on Saturday, then coming back with 15 points, six rebounds and five steals in the 68-56 championship win over Lafayette Central Catholic. Riverton Parke plays top-ranked Fort Wayne Canterbury in a Class A semistate game this Saturday.
Other Fever Players of the Week were Miracle Woods of Fort Wayne Luers and Kelsey Block of Madison. Carmela Roeschlein of Clay City was also nominated for Fever Player of the Week from District 3.
Pacers Players of the Week were Victor Vincz of Eastern Hancock, Mitch Yeagy of Alexandria, Demetrius Jackson of Mishawaka Marian and Sean Sellers of Greensburg. Vincz scored 52 points and Yeagy had 51 as Eastern Hancock beat Alexandria 92-91 last week; it’s believed to be the only game in Indiana high school basketball history with two 50-point scorers.

For so many years, the road to the IHSAA girls tennis state finals for local teams ran through Vincennes (regional) and Jasper (semistate). In other words, south and more south.
This year, their trip was re-routed through Greencastle (regional) and Center Grove (semistate). So it cnahged to east and more east. -

South Vermillion softball's late-season surge comes to end
A late-season surge by South Vermillion wasn’t quite enough to halt a high school softball sectional winning streak by the host team Thursday night, as Edgewood got on top early and held on for a 5-2 win in the championship game of the Class 3A Edgewood Sectional.
The loss was just the second in the last 12 games for the Wildcats. The Mustangs, however, haven’t lost a sectional softball game for eight years in a row. -
