Prep Roundup: Carmel takes advantage of North girls’ rough third quarter

Visiting Carmel blanked Terre Haute North 11-0 in the third quarter of a Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference girls basketball game Saturday, nearly the margin of victory in a 49-37 decision.

Torrie Thornton, Blaire Langlois and Lucy DeFruscio led the fifth-ranked Greyhounds in scoring with 15, 14 and 14 points, respectively.

Fran McCarthy paced North with 13 points and Nicole Anderson had 11.

• Shakamak 53, White River Valley 28 — At Switz City, the visiting Lakers had a 31-5 lead at halftime of the SouthWestern Indiana Athletic Conference game.

Casey Fougerousse had 18 points and five steals to lead the winners, who also got 10 points and 10 rebounds from Mikayla Crane, 10 points from Kristi Pearson and seven points and four steals from Jade Gambill.

Alicia Tally led all scorers with 19 for the Wolverines.

• Maroons win opener — At Robinson, Ill., Robinson opened play as host team in the Lady Maroons Thanksgiving Tourney with a 50-40 victory over Lawrenceville on Saturday.

Kayla Watts, Jordan Connelly and Kelsie Dirks paced the Maroons with 12, 12 and 11 points, respectively.

In the two morning games, Charleston topped Marshall 59-38, while Mount Carmel edged Casey 46-41 in overtime.
